The sedentary lifestyle and diet of most North Americans has forced people to start doing something to provide their bodies with enough physical activity to avoid health risks. spawned an attitude toward exercise and fitness Which could be negative in the long run. The rate at which people actually stay on a 'fitness program' is not high at all. It is not necessarily the programs, but rather the mind set about exercise which might be responsible for this high attrition rate. Keep an eye on younger children who have not yet fallen victim to obesity or low physical activity lifestyles. Watch them closely and you can see that the word exercise does not have real meaning to them. They know the word and in some sense what it means, but it does not belong to their world. To them playing and having fun is by far a priority over the exercise part of physical exertion. It is never a chore to them, never a 'workout', always just plain fun... We would really benefit learning from this approach. Don't try to exercise only for health, appearance, doctors orders, etc, etc. Make sure it is an activity you like to do, something that is fun for you above all else, even if it is not as efficient or as targeted as many of todays fitness approaches. After all what good is an exercise program if you only stick to it for 3 months!
