The sedentary lifestyle and diet of most North Americans has forced people to take action to provide their bodies with an adequate amount of exercise to stay healthy. This perhaps has spawned an attitude toward exercise and fitness which is not exactly positive. The rate at which people actually stay on a 'fitness program' is dismally low. The specific programs are not the sole problem, but rather the thinking about exercise itself that could be to blame for this high attrition rate. Look at some younger children who have not yet fallen victim to being overweight or inactive. Watch them closely and see that the word exercise does not mean anything to them. They know the word and in some sense what it means, but it does not really belong in their world. To them playing and having fun is above, way above, the exercise component. It is never a chore to them, never a 'workout', always just plain fun... We can learn from this approach. Don't try to exercise solely for health, appearance, doctors orders, etc, etc. Ensure it is an activity you like, something that is fun for you above all else, even if it is not as efficient as todays advanced fitness approaches. After all how effective is any exercise program if you only do it for a few months!
