The diet and inactive lifestyle of most North Americans has forced people to do something to provide their bodies with enough physical activity to avoid health risks. The programs themselves may not be the cause, but rather the mental state towards exercise Which could be responsible for this high attrition rate. Have a look at many younger children who have not yet fallen victim to obesity or sedentary lifestyles. Watch them closely and see that the word exercise does not have real meaning to them. They know the word and in some sense what it means, but it does not really have a place in their language. To them playing and having fun is by far more important than the exercise part of being active. It is never a chore to them, never a 'workout', always just plain fun... We can positively benefit from this approach. Don't try to exercise for only health, appearance, doctors orders, etc, etc. Make sure it is something you enjoy, something that is fun for you above all else, even if it is not as efficient or as cutting edge as some fitness approaches. After all how effective is an exercise program if you only stick to it for 3 months!
