The inactive habits and diet of most North Americans has forced people to take it upon themselves to provide their bodies with enough exercise to minimize risks to their health. This perhaps has spawned an attitude toward exercise and fitness that is on the negative side. The rate at which people actually stay on a 'fitness program' is not high at all. The particular programs may not be to blame, but rather the approach to exercise which may be causing this high attrition rate. Observe some younger children who have not yet fallen victim to a life of low activity. Watch them closely and see that the word exercise does not mean anything to them. They know the word and in some sense what it means, but it does not have a real place in their life. To them playing and having fun is by far a priority over the exercise feature of being physically active. It is never a chore to them, never a 'workout', always just plain fun... We should pay attention to this approach. Don't try to exercise just for health, appearance, doctors orders, etc, etc. Ensure it is an activity you like, something that is fun for you above all else, even if it is not as efficient as todays adult fitness approaches. How good is an exercise program if you only stick to it for 3 months!
