The inactive lifestyle and diet of most North Americans has forced people to take action to provide their bodies with enough activity to avoid health risks. This could have spawned an attitude toward exercise and fitness which could be harmful in the long run. The rate at which people actually stay on a 'fitness program' is not high at all. The particular programs may not be to blame, but rather the mental attitude towards exercise itself that could be responsible for this high attrition rate. Look at some younger children who have not yet fallen victim to and inactive lifestyle or being overweight. Watch them closely and you will realize that the word exercise means nothing to them. They know the word and in some sense what it means, but it does not have a real place in their life. To them playing and having fun is way more significant than the exercise part of physical exertion. It is never a chore to them, never a 'workout', always just plain fun... We can positively benefit from this approach. Don't try to exercise just for the sake of health, appearance, doctors orders, etc, etc. Have it be an activity you enjoy, something that is fun for you above all else, even if it is not as efficient or as targeted as most of todays fitness approaches. How useful is an exercise program if you stop doing it after a short time!
