The eating habits and sedentary ways of most North Americans has forced people to start doing something to provide their bodies with enough activity to avoid risks to health. Perhaps this has spawned an attitude toward exercise and fitness which could be harmful in the long run. The rate at which people actually stay on a 'fitness program' is pretty low. The programs themselves may not be the cause, but rather the mental attitude to exercise itself Which could be responsible for this high attrition rate. Observe several younger children who have not yet fallen victim to being overweight or inactive. Watch them closely and you can see that the word exercise does not mean anything to them. They know the word and in some sense what it means, but it does not have a real place in their life. To them playing and having fun is way more significant than the exercise component. It is never a chore to them, never a 'workout', always just plain fun... We should take note of this approach. Don't try to exercise just for the sake of health, appearance, doctors orders, etc, etc. Ensure that it is something you enjoy, something that is fun for you above all else, even if it is not as efficient as todays indepth fitness approaches. How effective is a modern exercise program if you only do it for a few months!
