The diet and inactive lifestyle of most North Americans has forced people to do something in order to provide their bodies with enough exercise to minimize risks to their health. This perhaps has spawned an attitude toward exercise and fitness which could be harmful in the long run. The rate at which people actually stay on a 'fitness program' is not very high. The specific programs are not the sole problem, but rather the approach to exercise that may be causing this high attrition rate. younger children who have not yet fallen victim to being overweight or inactive. Watch them closely and see that the word exercise does not mean anything to them. They know the word and in some sense what it means, but it does not actually sink in. To them playing and having fun is by far more important than the exercise feature of being physically active. It is never a chore to them, never a 'workout', always just plain fun... We can positively benefit from this approach. Don't try to exercise solely for health reasons, appearance, doctors orders, etc, etc. Have it be something you enjoy, something that is fun for you above all else, even if it is not as efficient or as targeted as most of todays fitness approaches. What good is a trendy and contemporary exercise program if you turf it after only several months!
