The couch potato lifestyle and diet of most North Americans has forced people to take it upon themselves to provide their bodies with adequate amounts of physical activity to prevent health risks. This might have spawned an attitude toward exercise and fitness which could be harmful in the long run. The rate at which people actually stay on a 'fitness program' is extremely low. Perhaps it is not the programs or methods, but rather the thinking towards exercise that could be causing this high attrition rate. younger children who have not yet fallen victim to sedentary habits or obesity. Watch them closely and see that the word exercise has no real meaning to them. They know the word and in some sense what it means, but it does not really belong in their world. To them playing and having fun is way above the exercise part of physical exertion. It is never a chore to them, never a 'workout', always just plain fun... We would really benefit learning from this approach. Don't try to exercise just for health reasons, appearance, doctors orders, etc, etc. Choose something you like doing, something that is fun for you above all else, even if it is not as efficient or as targeted as many of todays fitness approaches. How good is an exercise program if you quit shortly after starting it!
