The diet and inactive lifestyle of most North Americans has forced people to take action on their own to provide their bodies with adequate amounts of physical activity to avoid health risks. This may have spawned an attitude toward exercise and fitness which is not exactly positive. The rate at which people actually stay on a 'fitness program' is fairly low. The details of the programs are probably not the issue, but rather the approach to exercise itself that could be responsible for this high attrition rate. younger children who have not yet fallen victim to a life of low activity. Watch them closely and you can tell that the actual word exercise does not mean anything to them. They know the word and in some sense what it means, but it does not actually sink in. To them playing and having fun is by far more important than the exercise aspect of physical activity. It is never a chore to them, never a 'workout', always just plain fun... We need to learn from this approach. Don't try to exercise solely for the sake of health, appearance, doctors orders, etc, etc. Make sure it is something you enjoy, something that is fun for you above all else, even if it is not as efficient as the contemporary high tech fitness approaches. After all how effective is an exercise program if you quit shortly after starting it!
