The eating habits and sedentary ways of most North Americans has forced people to take matters into their own hands to provide their bodies with enough activity to avoid risks to health. This may have spawned an attitude toward exercise and fitness which may do more harm than good. The rate at which people actually stay on a 'fitness program' is low as a result. It is not necessarily the programs, but rather the mental attitude towards exercise Which could be responsible for this high attrition rate. Observe some younger children who have not yet fallen victim to low physical activity lifestyles. Watch them closely and you can tell that the actual word exercise has no meaning to them. They know the word and in some sense what it means, but it is not something they really comprehend. To them playing and having fun is by far more important than the exercise component. It is never a chore to them, never a 'workout', always just plain fun... We can learn from this approach. Don't try to exercise solely for the sake of health, appearance, doctors orders, etc, etc. Have it be an activity you enjoy, something that is fun for you above all else, even if it is not as efficient or as trendy as some fitness approaches. After all how effective is an exercise program if you do not follow it!
