The diet and inactive lifestyle of most North Americans has forced people to start doing something to provide their bodies with enough activity to avoid health risks. This possibly has spawned an attitude toward exercise and fitness which may do more harm than good. The rate at which people actually stay on a 'fitness program' is fairly low. Perhaps it is not the programs or methods, but rather the attitude toward exercise itself that could be to blame for this high attrition rate. Look at some younger children who have not yet fallen victim to a life of low activity. Watch them closely and you can tell that the actual word exercise has no meaning to them. They know the word and in some sense what it means, but it is not a concept that they can understand like adults. To them playing and having fun is way above the exercise part of being active. It is never a chore to them, never a 'workout', always just plain fun... We can positively benefit from this approach. Don't try to exercise solely for the sake of health, appearance, doctors orders, etc, etc. Have it be something you enjoy, something that is fun for you above all else, even if it is not as efficient or as trendy as many of the high tech fitness approaches. How good is an exercise program if you do not follow it!
