The eating habits and sedentary ways of most North Americans has forced people to take action to provide their bodies with enough activity to stay relatively healthy. This may have spawned an attitude toward exercise and fitness which may do more harm than good. The rate at which people actually stay on a 'fitness program' is not very high. Maybe it is not the programs, but rather the view of exercise which is perhaps responsible for this high attrition rate. Have a look at many younger children who have not yet fallen victim to and inactive lifestyle or being overweight. Watch them closely and you can see that the word exercise does not mean anything to them. They know the word and in some sense what it means, but it does not really belong in their vocabulary. To them playing and having fun is way more important than the exercise part. It is never a chore to them, never a 'workout', always just plain fun... We would really benefit learning from this approach. Don't try to exercise for only health, appearance, doctors orders, etc, etc. Make sure it is something you enjoy, something that is fun for you above all else, even if it is not as efficient or as trendy as many of the high tech fitness approaches. How effective is a modern exercise program if you do not follow it!
